Overview
Liberal arts students have skills that are in demand—and the flexibility of the degree means they can take their career paths in diverse and exciting directions. An associate degree in liberal arts and sciences is a solid stepping stone to further education. It provides strong academic preparation emphasizing communication as well as analytical and critical thinking skills. A liberal arts and sciences degree is a good starting point for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a major in such fields as English, history, mathematics, science, languages, philosophy, political science or social science, among others. Courses in this program are equivalent to those offered during the freshman and sophomore years at most four-year colleges and universities. This degree, combined with academic advising and career planning, will prepare graduates for their next steps—completing a bachelor’s degree, attending graduate school, and moving into the array of careers awaiting them throughout their lives.

Employment Outlook
The liberal arts and sciences degree will give a student an advantage when applying for jobs versus an applicant with no degree. However, the liberal arts and sciences degree is designed to be a transfer degree, created for the student looking to transfer to a 4-year school after graduating. It is not an occupational degree.
