Southern Migration and the Transformation of African American Connecticut, 1915-70

The Quinebaug Valley Community College Cultural Programming Committee will host Dr. Stacey Close, Associate Provost and Vice President for Equity and Diversity at Eastern Connecticut State University in celebration of Black History Month.

The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Close will give his presentation  on Tuesday February 26 at 2:00 p.m.  at QV in the Danielson Fireside Lounge.

Dr. Stacey Close

A native of Georgia, acclaimed scholar and educator Dr. Stacey Close has worked in higher education for more than 20 years.  He currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Equity and Diversity at Eastern Connecticut State University.  Also a professor of history, Close has taught courses that focused on African American, American, African, and Southern history. A believer in mentoring and supporting students outside the classroom, Close has also served as the advisor for student clubs such as ECSU’s Nubian Society and West Indian Society.  In 2014 Close was a contributing editor and essayist for African Americans in Connecticut Explored, published by Wesleyan University Press.  He frequently lectures and makes presentation on Black Hartford history. He has also appeared as a guest on NPR programs. Dr. Close was selected to be a 2011-2012 American Council on Education Fellow. Other honors include Eastern Connecticut State University’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award, Eastern Connecticut State University’s Faculty Teaching Award, and designation as one of Hartford Courant Magazine’s 12 Hot Professors.
