Welcome to the SPIROL Art Gallery
for Visual and Performing Arts
About the Gallery
In 2006, the College completed a 30,000 square foot addition, the West Wing, and through the generosity of SPIROL Corporation, Dayville, CT, the SPIROL Art Gallery came to life. Since the inception, the space has hosted shows from visiting local, regional and national artists, spoken word and musical performances. The end of each semester culminates with a student art show and in the spring term also includes a graduating student show. The Gallery is located in the atrium of the West Wing.
Amy Hannum Migration
August 27 – September 30, 2018
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 13, 5 -8 p.m.
My goal with art is to remind people of our basic human nature, to bridge our many differences by focusing on our commonalities. I like to bring people together using art that resonates with them non-verbally. People often say they sense the underlying emotion within my work; that it elicits a visceral response beyond words to which people can relate on a basic human level. It makes them feel connected.
Exploring the range of our shared emotions is the focus of the Migration series. Each work is a meditation on a specific moment in time reflecting a common experience in our lives. Love, life, death, family and interpersonal dynamics are all themes present in this migration through life. Though the earliest works are primarily constructed of Titanium white encaustic and cotton, color and other materials slowly found their way into the series.
