Will my donation be eligible for tax credit?
You will receive a written acknowledgement of your gift at the time of receipt. The QVCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and gifts made to the Foundation are eligible for tax deductions according to IRS guidelines
QVCC is a publicly funded institution; doesn’t the county/state take care of its needs?
Quinebaug Valley Community College is a publicly funded institution, but diminishing public funding requires the college to seek and secure other sources of revenue to develop and sustain programming and provide scholarships to meet student needs. Pell Grants, the largest source of scholarship designated for the most underprivileged community college students, once covered the entire cost of obtaining an associate’s degree. A recent nation study estimated that current Pell grants only cover 62 percent of the cost of a two-year degree. Gifts from individuals, business, and foundations make it possible for more students to enroll, complete their degree, get a good job, and give back to our community.
Who Receives Scholarships?
After students complete an online application, the scholarship committee, comprised of Foundation members, matches students with scholarship opportunities based on the donor intentions, financial need (as determined by the College’s Financial Aid Office), academic achievement and field of study.
