PharmacologyPharmacology for Medical Assistants

This is a 24-hour course for graduates of Medical Assisting programs prior to January 2022 and meets the training requirements of recently passed Connecticut legislation.  It is intended for those Medical Assistants who need to refresh skills and competencies of medication administration.  The course will focus on proper documentation, dosage calculations and medication administration.  Most of the time spent will be on the proper administration of oral, topical, and injectable medications.  Emphasis will be placed on the need for patient education concerning medication therapy. By the end of the course, students will be able to comprehend basic pharmacology facts relating to the source, the category, indication for use, and the consequences of drugs; Understand the principles and procedures for medication administration and perform various methods of medication administration; Apply the knowledge of dosage calculations and principles and procedures for medication administration into demonstrating injections into a simulated model without violating asepsis.

This course provides introductory knowledge about cannabis as well as detailed information about how medical cannabis is practiced in Connecticut. This class will explore approved medical conditions and how cannabis can be used to treat them. A variety of topics including state laws on medical marijuana, the chemical composition of cannabis, and how it plays a role in human physiology and pharmacology.

Medical Cannabis topics include:

  • The history of cannabis use and its prohibition in the US from legal and cultural perspectives
  • The state of the cannabis industry in the United States from legal, regulatory, and policy perspectives
  • The Endocannabinoid System: How and why cannabis works
  • The Pharmacology of Cannabis
  • All about Terpenes
  • Potential Therapeutic Effects
  • The adverse effects of Cannabis
  • Dosage forms of Medical Cannabis
  • Understanding dosing and absorption
  • The drug interacts and consumer safety
  • Substance use disorders and intoxication

Certification

Students completing this training will receive a certificate of completion, which will include CEU’S for professional development

Cannabis  Industry Retail Certificate

Course Description

The Cannabis Industry Retail Certificate was developed to address a growing demand of students interested in entering Cannabis industry. Retail plays a critical role in the cannabis industry, helping educate clients about the effects of cannabis, while ensuring a good shopping experience and ultimately – a good experience with the products. The cannabis industry is experiencing tremendous growth in meeting and serving the needs of recreational marijuana. Students will develop the fundamental skills required to work as professionals in this growing industry that will allow you to quickly walk into a role in any cannabis retail environment. Students enrolled in this college certificate program will have the opportunity to visit a facility in CT to learn more about this growing field. Dates and Times will discussed during the course and sign up sessions will be available.

Program Outcomes:

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be ready for entry-level employment in the recreational marijuana industry. In addition, students who complete the program will receive a college certificate of completion and have a strong understanding of the following.

  • Define compliance and operational excellence
  • Analyze plant and human biology in relation to cannabis
  • Identify the various cannabis products and delivery methods available to the customer
  • Examine quality customer service to increase sales
  • Understand dosing and titration strategies
  • Identify best practices for security and transportation

Dementia Care Certificate

What is Dementia?

Dementia refers to a group of symptoms that together affect the memory, normal thinking, communication, and reasoning ability of a person. These symptoms make it difficult to perform even daily simple tasks such as bathing and eating. Alzheimer’s disease is the main cause of the majority of cases of dementia. Dementia can’t be cured but there are medications to manage the symptoms.

Course Description

This course will focus on methods practiced across the senior care industry. Training provided by Taylor Lajeunesse, CDP, CMDCP will cover a wide variety of techniques taught by professionals like Teepa Snow, Dr. Cameron Camp, and LiveWell (formerly known as the Alzheimer’s Resource Center). Education provided in this course will cover how to recognize when someone has a cognitive impairment, how to approach individuals living with cognitive impairment, and strategies to encourage and promote continued independence in the community.

HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the BLS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace. Providers first complete the online portion of HeartCode BLS and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS Instructor.
