OER Commons:

Higher-education open textbooks and supplements, sponsored by ISKME, the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education. As reviewed by eCampus News, OER Commons includes “[f]ull university courses, complete with readings, videos of lectures, homework assignments, and lecture notes; interactive mini-lessons and simulations about a specific topic, such as math or physics; adaptations of existing work; and electronic textbooks that are peer-reviewed and frequently updated.” View by discipline or provider.

Open Stax:

An initiative of Rice University with support from philanthropic foundations. Access peer-reviewed textbooks and learning modules in many disciplines. View, download, use, modify and share content.

Open Textbook Library:

Sponsored by the University of Minnesota. Freely access, download, adapt and distribute open source textbooks.

Merlot II:

One of the earliest OER resources (begun in 1997), the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching offers an extensive and range of teaching and learning tools across many disciplines.

Open Course Library:

Managed by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the course materials include syllabi, readings, assessments and learning activities designed by faculty, librarians and others. Some OER content may be paired with low-cost (typically $30) textbooks. All content has been tested for accessibility.

Affordable Learning Solutions:

An initiative of California State University, ALS provides free and lower-cost etextbooks and course materials and custom publishing. Try out their ISBN search: find alternative no- and low-cost books relating to the content of the textbook ISBN you enter in your query.

The Orange Grove:

Florida’s open educational resource repository includes open textbooks and other course materials.

Lumen Learning:

Browse the course catalog. Lumen Learning creates fully customizable courses and replaces textbooks with online content that can be integrated into Blackboard or other online learning management systems.

Saylor Academy:

Saylor builds free, open online courses.

UConn Libraries’ Guide to Open (and Alternative) Educational Resources:
