SAT and ACT Scores

  • English: If you took the NEW SAT test (spring 2016 and after) and have an SAT Writing and Language test score of 26 or higher or a Reading test score of 25 or higher, took the OLD SAT test (prior to spring 2016) and have an SAT Writing or Critical Reading score of 450 or higher, or a documented ACT English and Writing scores combined 47 or higher or ACT English of 21 or higher, you qualify for exemption from the English component of the BSA and may register for ENG 101 – College Composition.
  • Math: If you took the New SAT test (spring 2016 or after) and have SAT Math scores of 530 or higher, took the OLD SAT test and have SAT Math scores of 500 or higher, or a documented ACT Math score of 18 or higher you qualify for exemption from the Math component of the BSA.  New Math SAT 530 – 569 places you into MAT 137, 570 – 709 places you into MAT 143, 146, 167 and/or 186, and 710 or higher places you into MAT 254. OLD Math SAT 500 -549 places you into MAT 137, 550 or higher places you into MAT 143, 146, 167 and/or 186. Students with a Math ACT of 18-21 place into MAT 137 and students with a score of 22 or higher place into MAT 143, 146, 167, and/or 186. Students who qualify for MAT 143, 146, 167 or 186 and wish to register for Math 254 (Calculus I) should be referred to Denise Walsh, Department Chair-Math, for further assessment.
  • MAT 137 – Intermediate Algebra
  • MAT 143 – Math for Elementary Education: Algebra, Number Systems
  • MAT 146 – Math for Liberal Arts
  • MAT 167 – Statistics
  • MAT 186 – Precalculus
  • MAT 254 – Calculus I
  • Students meeting the exemption criteria should complete a BSA Exemption form
