Associate of Arts, Visual Arts

OVERVIEW

The Visual Arts Department at QVCC offers a two-year program that prepares students for a degree in Visual Arts. Our majors are exposed to a wide variety of tools and materials within a liberal arts context. A broad array of studio and digital arts courses, such as painting, photography, ceramics, illustration, graphic design and animation, along with a strong program core including art history are required components of our program.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Visual Arts program is designed to prepare students for smooth transfer to a four year art school or university art department by providing them with the required general education core and five required courses within the major. Additionally, art faculty advise students in the elective areas of their choice to make certain all courses are completed, for a total of 60 credits.

All courses are taught by professionals in their field to ensure that students are competitive as they transfer to four-year schools or seek employment. Many of our graduates have moved on to top art schools in New England, particularly those who have participated in articulation agreements that ensure a smooth and cost effective transfer process.

At the culmination of the fall and spring terms, a student art show overflows from our in-house art gallery, The SPIROL Art Gallery , into the Atrium hosting work from all of the term’s art courses.  At the end of the spring semester, there is a graduating student art show.
