Credit Programs for High School Students

Congratulations for choosing to start your college career while still in high school. There are a number of different ways you can earn college credits.

College Career Pathways (CCP)

CCP provides an opportunity for career exploration and for students to earn college credits from taking classes in their high schools. Please check with QVCC or your high school to find out if College Career Pathways is happening at your high school.

High School students

Benefits include:

  • All approved courses are offered at the high school during normal school hours and are taught by your high school teachers who have been certified by QVCC
  • Most courses will be available to high school juniors and seniors although some will be available as early as freshman year
  • Graduating from high school with a college transcript that can follow you to QVCC or another college of your choice
  • Saving money on college tuition
  • Many CCP courses focus on career related skills necessary to become prepared for continued education and the competitive job market

For more information contact your guidance counselor or Elkin Espitia-Loaiza, Academic Division Director

High School Partnership Program (HSP)

If you are a high school junior or senior student from a participating HSP school, you can take college courses (fall and spring) – free of charge. QVCC waives the tuition and fees for enrolled HSP students. These courses can be used at QVCC toward a degree or certificate or transferred to another college after your high school graduation. You are responsible for the cost of books and supplies for the classes, as well as for transportation.

You must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative scholastic average of 80 or “B-” overall
  • Complete the online High School Partnership (Dual Enrollment Application) application. This link will be provided to you by your school counselor of by the QVCC Admissions Office
  • Be recommended by your guidance counselor
  • Take the Basic Skills Assessment for placement; the test may be waived if you provide SAT or ACT results with appropriate scores. Please Note: We can also use GPA for course placement, however, depending on the desired courses, you may be required to take the assessment test.
  • You will meet with a designated Dual Enrollment Guided Pathway Advisor to select your course or courses (maximum is two courses per semester.)

High School Partnership slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can use these classes towards a QVCC degree or certificate or can transfer the course to another college or university.

Early Admission of High School Students

If you demonstrate sufficient academic ability and maturity, you may be considered for enrollment in credit courses on a full-paying basis.

You must:

  • Complete the general application for admission and take the Basic Skills Assessment. Please note: We can now use GPA for course placement, however, depending on the desired courses, you may be required to take the assessment test.
  • Satisfy all prerequisites
  • Register for a maximum of two college classes
