On Friday April 13, Jayne Battye, Jennifer Cournoyer, and Amy Kacerik presented the topic of food insecurity on campus at the 2018 CSCU Faculty Advisory Council Conference on Student Success and Shared Governance at Southern Connecticut State University.
Earth Hour 2018

SGA working on OER
On Friday, March 2 at Naugatuck Valley Community College, SGA officers Heather Vogt and Roxy Huckaby joined with other SGA officers from throughout the system for a half day conference on Open Educational Resources (OER). Nicole Allen from SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) presented the keynote, followed by presentations from Kevin Corcoran & Jennifer Cournoyer and the CCSU SGA representatives. Kaitlyn Vitez from US Student PIRGs led the group in advocacy planning for OER on campus. (Posted 3/8/2018)
Food Insecurity Task Force
On Monday, March 5, 2018, the Taskforce on Student Food Insecurity was joined by representatives from UNFI’s (United Natural Foods, Inc.) “Helping Hands” committee. UNFI has been a generous donor to both the “Help Yourself Boxes” on campus and the Pop-up Pantry. (Posted 3/8/2018)
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, Amy Kacerik, Director of Student Services and Registrar here at QVCC, represented the College at the Annual Willimantic Chocolate Festival. Computer Lab Dedicated to Jan Hall on December 7, 2017
Family, friends, and colleagues were in attendance today as the computer lab located in the east wing was dedicated to the memory of Janet Hall, a beloved professor of computer science who passed away in February after a short illness.
During her 20 years at QVCC Jan also served the college as a non-credit lecturer, adjunct faculty, and director of the Learning Center. She was recently honored by the college and named professor emerita of computer science. (Posted 1/3/2018)
Pop-Up Food Pantries are here!
Thanks to generous donations from United Foods, Inc., QVCC was able to set up a Pop-up Food Pantry on December 4th and 5th in the Fireside Lounge. Students were encouraged to fill a bag with items like cereal, soup, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, oatmeal, and sparkling water. This pop-up supplemented the “Help Yourself Boxes” of grab-and-go food located in classrooms and public spaces around the college. (Posted 12/5/2017)
Fall Open House
QVCC welcomed guests from the community to learn about our programs at the Fall Open House on Wednesday, November 15. Faculty and staff provided program overviews and discussed the many transfer opportunities, and the QVCC Student Ambassadors provided campus tours. (Posted 11/29/2017)
Financial Aid Night
On Wednesday, November 8, QVCC hosted the annual Financial Aid Night. Forty-three guests attended to learn how to navigate the FAFSA and financial aid processes. (Posted 11/29/2017)
On Tuesday, October 24, QVCC hosted the annual College Transfer Fair. Students had the opportunity to meet with 26 representatives from four year colleges and universities. There was a constant flow of interested students as they took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the abundant transfer opportunities available. (Posted 11/29/2017)
Dean Alfred Williams attends the 2017 CONNTAC Scholarship ceremony
The Connecticut Talent Assistance Cooperative (CONNTAC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. CONNTAC plays an important role in providing access to Connecticut’s Community Colleges. Their staff assist students with FAFSAs, admissions applications, and college placement. QVCC is one of ten colleges to which CONNTAC provides services. At their annual scholarship ceremony held this year on October 20, ten scholarships were awarded. Several of the awardees spoke about their challenges and many had inspiring stories. The Keynote speaker at the ceremony was Connecticut State Colleges and Universities President Mark Ojakian. Spring 2017 Dean’s List Celebration
On Thursday, October 19, 2017, students and their families gathered for the biannual Dean’s List Celebration. At this event, 150 returning students whose academic achievements during the spring 2017 semester earned them a position on the Dean’s List were recognized. Yvonne Picard, of the QVCC class of 2017, and the runner-up for the Student Graduation Speaker, delivered inspirational words about her experiences at the College. (Posted 10/23/2017)
Jan Hall granted Emeritus status
On October 18th, the President’s Cabinet approved granting emeritus status to Jan Hall, former Professor of Computer Science here at QVCC. Jan held many positions at QVCC during her twenty year tenure at QVCC (1996-2016) including Program Coordinator of the Computer Science Program. (Posted 10/31/2017)
